2 months ago 17th Jul 14:00

Norway's King Harald won a regatta this week.

The 71-year-old monarch took part in the event off Hanko on the Oslo Fjord, in his country's south east coast.

He competed in the recently-refurnished 1930s yacht, Sara, which was originally built for his father, the late King Olaf.

Witnessed by wife Queen Sonja, the king came first in the world championship for classic eight-metre vessels in the race of 25 boats from 10 different countries.

Before taking the throne, King Harald represented Norway's yachting team in the Olympic Games.

The regatta was part of the Royal Norwegian Yacht Clubs 125-year celebration. The last race of this kind took place in 1983 at the club's Centennial Jubilee.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Harald's daughter, Princess Martha Louise's controversial "angel school" has generated no profit.
