Our countdown to find the best cinema heroes and villains has entered the top ten and today we look at the Man of Steel Superman and Freddy Krueger.
Superman is a comic book superhero who was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1932, but first appeared in Action Comic #1 in 1938.
Born on the planet of Krypton he was sent to earth by his scientist father moments before the planet was destroyed.
Found by the Kent family, a farmer and his wife, he was raised as Clark Kent.
Clark lives amongst humans working as a journalist at a Metropolis newspaper The Daily Planet alongside fellow reporter Lois lane with who he is regularly romantically linked.
Over the years Superman has become an American cultural icon and has moved out of comics into cartoons and on to the big screen.
Christopher Reeve is perhaps one of the most famous incarnations of Superman and alter ego Clark Kent starring in Superman I, Superman II, Superman III and Superman IV:Quest for Peace between 1978 - 1987.
