Aaron Eckhart has signed up for the lead role in 'Battle: Los Angeles'.
The 'Dark Knight' star will play the leader of a platoon of marines who tackle an alien threat to LA in the action film.
It is set to be one of his first leading roles in a major movie, despite having previously won critical acclaim for supporting parts in movies including 'Erin Brockovich' and 'Thank You For Smoking'.
No other cast details have been revealed for the film, which will be directed by Jonathan Liebesman.
The script is being penned by 'The General's Daughter' writer Christopher Bertolini and the movie will be produced by Neal Moritiz's Original Film, for Columbia Pictures.
Before he begins work on 'Battle: Los Angeles', 40-year-old Aaron will star alongside Jennifer Aniston in romantic drama 'Traveling'.
