Charlie Sheen's Emmy battle

Charlie Sheen and Steve Carell will battle it out at The 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in September.

The 'Two and a Half Men' actor and 'The Office' star will compete for the Lead Actor in a Comedy accolade at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Joining Steve and Charlie in the category are 'Monk' actor Tony Shalhoub, Lee Pace from 'Pushing Daisies' and '30 Rock' star Alec Baldwin.

In the female equivalent, Christina Applegate and America Ferrera are the frontrunners for their roles in 'Samantha Who?' and 'Ugly Betty' respectively. They will compete against Julia Louis-Dreyfus from 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' , Tina Fey of '30 Rock' fame and 'Weeds' star Mary Louise-Parker at the event to be held at the Nokia Theatre.

Other notable competitors include Glenn Close and Sally Field in the Lead Actress in a Drama category and Hugh Laurie and James Spader who are up for the Lead Actor in a Drama award.

This is the first year US reality TV hosts will be recognised.

'Project Runway' host Heidi Klum will battle it out with 'American Idol' presenter Ryan Seacrest, among others.
