every time i try to watch a clip _ such as on youtube, a message comes up saying that i need to update my flash player and provides a link to the adobe site. so a number of times i have downloaded the flash player, and am told that it's been downloaded successfully. however, the same thing always happens and i cant watch anything. also, an number of sites dont work because they require flash. i've been onto my security settings and have made sure that scripting and active x is allowed.

it's really frustrating! any advice?

Did it auto-install after being downloaded?
I've had problems with Flash in the same way before too, so I manually downloaded and installed it which solved the problem.

I hope you're able to fix the problem.

YouTube has become a bit buggy since it was bought out by another company. I've had that same Flash Player error when I know Flash was working fine. I also know other people who've had the same error message with YouTube too.
Even the YouTube upload doesn't work most of the time for me any more and there's no progress bar to indicate whether it's working or not.
Also, knowing SpewTube is buggy, I wouldn't be surprised if the link to Flash is for an old version.

I had the same problem I tried several times . I then realized I had not removed the old version of Adobe's Flash Player I then removed it , I had no problems with the latest download it then worked first time for me .

Curious. I had this problem for a while every time I tried to use Youtube and then the problem went away. I don't think it's to do with Activex - you shouldn't need it to use Flash animation. (Mine is a Linux operating system so Activex is irrelevant anyway).

*nix and flash .There has been an ongoing bug with adobe flash and some Linux distros and browser mixes .Mostly with Firefox 3 but ff2 also .

from sweetaspoison post it sounds like he is only DL'ing it and not installing . for vista and xp you need to be an administrator to install it
some of the problem may be " windows Media Player " .

Mozilla must have made some radical changes to Firefox 3 because there's loads of things incompatible with it, including the latest version of Orbit Downloader, which is a fantastic free program. Even the latest version of Real player has a plugin to download embedded Real content, isn't compatible with Firefox 3.0.1 and nor are the plug-ins for Skype or VideoDownloader (another embedded video grabber).

A lot of the changes were to the plugin architecture so it's not entirely suprising to developers. The ff team pretty much said from the outset that it would break compatibility with a lot of plugins - it's just a case of waiting for the plugin makers to fix the problems I guess.

I suspect this might be an Internet Explorer problem e.g. not enabling the Adobe Flash Player ActiveX add-on, even though it has already been installed correctly.

To check which add-ons are enabled or disabled when using Internet Explorer you need to go to menu item...

Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-ons...

A list should then appear showing... "Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer" and whether they are enabled or disabled.

Search for the entry 'Adobe Flash Player' or 'Shockwave Flash Object'. If the status is 'disabled' then it needs to be enabled.

To do this select the entry in the list (left most column) which should then be highlighted. Select the 'enable' option by clicking the 'Enable' radio button in the section marked "Settings".

The Adobe Flash Player ActiveX Control should then be enabled. Choose OK to exit the Add-ons list window and hopefully your flash videos should now be viewable in Internet Explorer.

Firefox doesn't seem to have any problems when installing the Flash Player as the plug-in works straight away.
