Tea thief

A woman avoided an attack from a knife wielding thief by calming him down with a cup of tea.

The 30-year-old woman from Tokyo was confronted by the knifeman in the corridor of her apartment. She was walking with her six month old baby at the time.

The thief demanded cash and when told by the woman she had none, barged into her apartment. The woman decided to offer sympathy and made the thief a cup of tea. His behaviour became much calmer; he put his knife away and started a twenty minute monologue about his life.

The woman later gave him nearly £50 and fled the flat to phone police from a pay phone. The criminal remains at large.
